“The fastest way to still the mind is to move the body”
What Unwind Wednesdays Is
Unwind Wednesdays is a 90-minute free-form movement meditation held in an intimate space — a room where music, movement, awareness and breath guide you.
This isn’t a class with steps to follow or shapes to copy. You’re guided with creative prompts to help you drop into your body. You choose how you move, rest, or lay still while being held by the music.
When you arrive, there will be gentle music.
The music begins gently — slow, flowing, steady — giving your body a chance to warm, loosen, and find its way in.
Take notice the parts of your body asking for attention, and the parts you hardly ever feel.
There will be prompts that help you explore your body. You’re free to follow them or tune your own impulses. There is no “right way.”
As the session unfolds, the music carries you through a journey — rising, expanding, shifting, softening.
It builds, then gently descends, easing you back toward stillness so you can integrate whatever moved through you.
There is no talking during the class.
It’s silent in terms of words — however it’s a time for your body to express — held by music the whole way through.
You can be in quiet connection with others if you feel drawn to it… or stay completely in your own world. Nothing is expected.
There is no choreography and no prescribed steps.
You can stand, sit, rest in a chair, lie on the floor, or move between all of them.
The mix of genres, tempos, and textures in the music creates shifting landscapes for you to explore your own inner landscape — at the pace that feels right for you.
You decide how deeply you go, how you move, when you pause, and tune into what you need.
This is your dance.

Who It’s For
Unwind Wednesdays is for people who want a space that meets them exactly where they are.
It’s for beginners and seasoned movers alike.
For people with limited mobility.
For anyone who feels nervous about being seen, or unsure about taking up space.
For those who think best while moving, who process life in motion, who feel more than they can easily put into words.
It’s for seekers — people on a path of self-discovery, people who’ve dipped their toes into other modalities, people who value expression without performance.
It’s for the ones who crave solitude while not being alone.
For the ones who are at a loss for words, but not feelings.
For the ones who want their emotions to move, not their performance.
There’s no talking.
Your body will speak for you.
It’s a container for creative, somatic unwinding — a space where belonging doesn’t require pressure, and expression doesn’t require an audience.
All abilities welcome.
Every way of moving welcome.
Every version of you welcome.
Who It’s Not For
This class isn’t the right fit for people who:
want to learn steps or choreography
prefer performance, technique or structure
are looking for a social night out
want a space with talking, drinking or high-energy interaction
aren’t interested in inward exploration
are seeking a fitness-style class or a workout
FAQs
-
Yes. Many people who join have never done anything like this before. There are no steps to learn and nothing to get right — the practice meets you exactly where you are.
-
None of that matters here. You can stand, sit, rest in a chair, lie on the floor, or move between all of them. Your movement can be small, subtle, spacious or playful. All abilities are welcome.
-
No. There’s no audience and no performance. Everyone is focused on themselves and how they want to move.
-
Ideally you arrive on time so you can experience the opening arc of the music. If you need to step out early, you can do so quietly. Your autonomy matters.
-
That’s completely normal — many people arrive feeling the same. The space is non-verbal, inward-focused, and pressure-free. You can stay in your own bubble for as long as you need.
-
Not during the class. It’s silent in terms of words, held by music the whole way through. Conversation is welcome before or after if you choose, but not required.
-
No. Unwind Wednesdays is not therapy. It’s a body based movement practice that supports self-awareness, expression, and benefits of gathering in person, in community. You’re always in charge of your own experience.
YOUR GUIDE
Hi, I'm Melissa. I started dancing at 10 years old, moving through jazz, tap, ballet, and musical theatre, and spending many years in the world of competition and performance.
When I discovered 5Rhythms — a conscious dance practice that has deeply informed this class — it felt like coming home.
A balm.
Soul food.
Here was movement and music without performance.
A place to move freely, to express myself in connection with others, and to get to know myself through my body.
I began guiding free form movement classes in 2018 while completing specialised training to teach dance with people living with Alzheimer’s, dementia, Parkinson’s, and older adults. I also produced 5Rhtyhms workshops in the Ottawa region.
At the heart of my work is a deep respect for each body’s wisdom.
I trust that your body knows what it needs — and I’m here to create a space where you can listen.
You’re welcome to move and dance with us, exactly as you are.
